The Historical Society was founded in 1967 and was named as the
Korong Historical Society based on the fact that at the time
it was located within the Shire of Korong. In 1988 it was renamed to the
Korong (Wedderburn) Historical Society and in 1994 the Shire was
renamed to the Loddon Shire.
In 2019, and as the Shire of Korong no longer existed, the society changed its name to the Wedderburn Historical Records Museum Inc.
The building at 26 High Street (shown on the left) has historical significance in that it was the original
shire offices opened in 1874. The shire offices moved to 37-41 High Street in 1962 and the
Historical Society took over this building in 1978.
Since its foundation, the society has acquired tens of thousands of documents and in 2017 a
computer software package was developed to digitise these documents. To date over 91,000
documents have been digitised and indexed to enable quick access and collation.
One of our latest projects has been to install 75 QR Codes on gravestones at the Wedderburn
Cemetery so that visitors can call up an audio visual slide show about the persons life history.
Our office at 26 High Street is open on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between 10:00am and 3:00pm.
